About the client

The Hackett Group is a consulting firm working with enterprise organizations on business and technology initiatives. Develative supports its teams with AI, full-stack, and data engineering expertise.

This opportunity focuses on developing AI applications for enterprise workflows, including finance and business systems.

About the role

You’ll build AI applications using Python and LangGraph, connecting models with enterprise data, tools, and existing software. You’ll help decide which approaches fit the problem, test their behavior, and take them from an initial implementation into production.

We’re looking for someone who follows developments from OpenAI, Anthropic, and other major model providers and can explain when a new model or capability is worth adopting.

Responsibilities

You’ll work with business and engineering teams to turn requirements into tested, maintainable AI applications.

• Develop backend services and AI applications in Python.

• Build workflows in LangGraph, including state management, tool use, branching, and error handling.

• Implement retrieval-augmented generation using embeddings, vector databases, and search.

• Integrate models from OpenAI, Anthropic, and other providers.

• Evaluate models and prompts against representative tasks, comparing output quality, latency, and cost.

• Stay current with model releases, API changes, and provider capabilities, and assess their relevance to ongoing projects.

• Connect AI applications with enterprise systems, APIs, and data sources.

• Build tests, monitoring, and evaluation processes to identify failures and track improvements.

• Document technical decisions, limitations, and operational requirements.

Qualifications

You should have practical experience building AI software and be able to discuss the decisions and trade-offs behind your work.

• Proficiency in Python, including API development, testing, debugging, and maintainable application design.

• Proficiency in LangGraph, with hands-on experience building stateful workflows and tool integrations.

• Experience integrating and working with models from OpenAI, Anthropic, and other major providers.

• Up-to-date knowledge of model capabilities, limitations, structured outputs, tool calling, and context management.

• Hands-on experience with vector databases, including indexing, metadata filtering, and retrieval.

• Understanding of embeddings, chunking, semantic search, and retrieval evaluation.

• Experience evaluating AI applications beyond checking whether individual responses look correct.

• Clear written and spoken English and the ability to explain technical decisions to business stakeholders.

Nice to have

The following experience would help you contribute to the enterprise context of the role.

• Familiarity with finance workflows or ERP systems, including Oracle.

• Experience with hybrid search, reranking, or graph databases.

• Experience with data pipelines, access controls, and sensitive enterprise information.

• Experience operating AI applications in production, including tracing, monitoring, and incident investigation.
